Design, Fabrication, Research and Teaching- these four activities are at the core of Arregui Velazquez; any advance in each area is then organically incorporated into the others with the aim of furthering our knowledge and experience in the design and construction of high-quality, bespoke bicycles.
Arregui Velázquez is the person behind the Escuela Técnica de la Bicicleta and also an official partner of the International Bicycle Engineering Research Group IBERG , a collaborative network of engineers from different, world-wide universities whose aim is to promote the research and dissemination of advances in the field of bicycle engineering and applied technologies..
Courses and Research
The only way forward to advance in our craft and improve the quality of our work is to expand and deepen our understanding of the different processes involved in the desiging and building of bicycles.Accordingly, if we are employing tubesets with specific alloys and using different types of welding techniques for the constrution of a frameset, we necessarily have to posses a solid knowledge of the metallurgy related to steel; likewise, if we are working with composite materials, we need to have a good understanding of the different properties of polymers and carbon fibers to be able to manufacture reliable frames and components.
In the absence of any educational institution or training centre in which frame-building is imparted as if it were an engineering career or technical profession, the Escuela Técnica de la Bicicleta (ETB) aspires to create a basic body of knowledge, techniques and procedures that can be transmitted to the student in an effective and systematised way for its subsequent practical application at the workshop.
Finally, the ETB is also a center for study and research that collaborates with various universities and institutions (both national and international) to acquire deeper knowledge on diverse technical aspects of bicycle construction and design.
