It all starts with a conversation or email in which you explain the type of use main thing that you are going to make of the bicycle and what are your expectations on a functional and aesthetic level. Whenever possible we like to have this initial chat in person so we are delighted if you can come to Madrid to meet us and visit our workshop. We also understand that not everyone can travel here; In this case there is no other option than to have this conversation through telephone, video-conference or by email. We have extensive experience because most of our clients are from outside Madrid or Spain.
Each painting is unique so the possibilities are (almost) endless. Each assembly is personal and therefore the way of approaching the process is different each time. During this contact Initially, the project will be defined jointly, being the ideal time to ask any questions and resolve any doubts you may have about the design, the ordering process or the complete construction and assembly.
Once we have defined the type of bicycle, we proceed to carry out a initial design and prepare a budget approximate manufacturing and/or assembly cost. Before starting with the final design and the purchase of materials, it is necessary to pay a deposit of 40% of the total agreed by the frame and/or fork. In the case of building a complete bicycle, payment of 100% of the value of the components is also required. Once the deposit payment has been made, your project enters our waiting list.
The design is made based on the type of bicycle being sought, the body measurements of the cyclist as well as their physical shape. Our clients have the option, whenever necessary or desired, to carry out a biomechanical study at a special price on Cycling and Performance.
A few weeks before starting the construction of the frame and with all the information collected for the project, we will contact you again to present the final design of the bicycle for your final approval. In this final design Made in BikeCad a complete representation of the bicycle is obtained that allows us to appreciate the different construction details and make a simulation of different positions. (Sometimes in this final design phase some last minute modifications can be made which, in most cases, do not alter the original budget).
With the final design approved and materials ready, the next step is the construction of the frame and/or fork in our workshop. Its duration can vary between 1 or 2 weeks depending on the complexity of the project. This construction process can be followed through its corresponding Flickr album.
The following days are dedicated to achieving the high level of finishes and other finishing details typical of a quality artisan painting, thus being ready for the painting phase.
The paint Not only does it give us the final appearance of the frame, but it also protects the steel of the tubes against external corrosion processes. Unless the frame is constructed of stainless steel, no frame is considered finished until it has been painted. Our frames are also treated on the inside with a product that is highly resistant to rust, even in saline environments near the coast.
The last phase corresponds to complete assembly of the bicycle. In principle we prefer to build a complete bicycle because in this way we ensure the compatibility of all the components and their correct integration within the final design. When carrying out the final assembly we not only achieve a optimal performance of the bicycle as a whole, but (even more relevant) we adjust the position of the contact points to accurately reproduce the position on the bike of the original design and/or biomechanical study.
We have no problem just building the frame, but in that case it is necessary to provide some components before starting the design such as the bottom bracket, cranks and brakes.
The delivery time estimated from the payment of the deposit it is 6 to 8 months but this may vary depending on the complexity of the project, the number of orders on the waiting list or the availability of some materials or components.
These prices include the following frame specs:
The fork plays a fundamental role in the character of a bicycle, with the advancement and shape of the fork being relevant in defining its behavior. The maneuverability of the bicycle depends, along with other factors, on the type of fork.
For our custom paintings we have a wide catalog of carbon forks from brands such as Columbus, Enve, Dedacciai or Kinesis. The specifications of the carbon fork you choose for your bicycle are incorporated into the frame design to achieve optimal behavior and performance. Discount on Columbus forks when ordering with any of our frames. Prices for carbon forks from €220 depending on brand and model.
We also manufacture custom steel forks, which allows us to achieve a type of behavior and performance according to your preferences. From a more agile and sporty type of driving, greater stability for front loading, rigidity for sprints and explosive climbs, to greater comfort and absorption of terrain vibrations; these are some of the different characteristics that can be achieved depending on the type, construction technique and materials chosen when manufacturing a custom fork. We can build different types of forks for road, track, touring, randonneur and also make replicas of a bent fork (no repairs are made).
The forks can be built with or without fillet brazing depending on the type of characteristics and final appearance we are looking for. We have a wide range of crown and tips. If you want to see the different options, write us a Email so that we can send you more information about it.
Prices for custom forks from €590. The price includes rack and fender mounts, as well as V mounts or cantilever brakes if necessary.
A Tailor-made power It helps us locate one of the three points of contact a cyclist has with his or her bike (hands, feet, and butt). On many occasions we have to settle for a certain position that is dictated by the type of power available on the market. With custom power, however, you can modify the shape, length and angle of the power in the way we want in order to achieve an optimal position for the hands / handlebars.
In addition, tailored power helps us complete assembly not only from a functional point of view (position on the bicycle) and also on an aesthetic level (visual integration of power with the rest of the frame and fork). The stems are manufactured in steel using different construction techniques – fillet brazing, fittings or bi-laminates. Stems for classic threaded and A-head type headsets, with elevation and integration of brake cables or other accessories. Prices from €390.
The painting is a fundamental part of the painting. A good paint design It helps us highlight different areas of the bicycle and thus highlight the craftsmanship that has been previously carried out at the finishing level of all the joints and parts of the frame. He basic paint scheme It consists of a frame and fork in a color of your choice with the Arregui Velázquez logo in a complementary color, using high-quality two-coat automotive paint. Painting price from €220
If you want to make a more complex and elaborate design or choose some type of special finish ("candy", metallic particles, matte, ice effect, chrome-velato, etc...), we can advise you and put you in contact with the professional painter most suitable to carry out your assignment. At Arregui Velázquez we work with the best painters in the sector nationwide; each of them has a particular style and is specialized in different painting techniques and finishes, being capable of making any design that you propose for your bicycle.
At Arregui Velázquez we carry out training courses for people interested in knowing how to make a bicycle: if you want to make your own frame and, at the same time, learn the fundamentals and resources necessary to continue advancing independently in the world of design and manufacturing of bicycles, you can consult the different courses that we offer at the ETB.
